AI
What Forge's AI does, and what it never sees
The rules Forge's AI works under: what it writes, what is sent to it, what never is, and the daily allowance.
On this page
Forge uses AI to write first drafts and short summaries for you. It works under three rules.
- Nothing it writes reaches a client until you have read it and pressed Send.
- Your connected calendar is never sent to AI.
- Every account has a daily AI allowance, so it can't run away.
The rest of this page is the detail behind each one.
What the AI does
Drafts you switch on
These four are off until you switch them on in Settings → AI assistant, under What it may draft.
- Lead replies: a reply to a new enquiry from your enquiry form.
- Proposals: a first draft of a proposal's intro, scope and pricing.
- Invoice chases: the wording of an overdue reminder.
- Session recaps: a follow-up after a session.
While one is off, nothing changes: invoice reminders and follow-ups go out as they always have. See AI drafts for how to review and send them.
Things that work without a switch
- Meeting briefs. A short summary of who you are about to meet, shown only to you. It appears on the calendar in the ten minutes before a Forge booking, and you can ask for one with Brief me on a booking. A brief is never sent to anyone.
- Draft the follow-up, a button on a booking, when you want a recap written on the spot.
- Typed commands. When you press ⌘K and type what you want in your own words, instead of picking a command from the list, Forge asks the AI which command you meant. Nothing runs until you confirm it.
- Your Monday digest. Its opening lines are written by AI. It is emailed only to you.
- Moving in. When you press Sort it out with AI, it suggests what each column of your file is. This one is for paid plans and trials. See Moving in from another tool.
What is sent to the AI
To write something useful, Forge sends the AI the record it is writing about and a little context. Depending on the task, that is:
- About you: your name, agency and intro from your profile. If you have not set a name, your email address is used in its place.
- An enquiry: the lead's name, their message, what they want, their budget band and timing.
- A booking: the event type, the time, the guest's name and message, their answers to your booking questions, and your internal notes on the booking.
- A client: their name and company, how many sessions you have had, and up to a few of your notes about them.
- An invoice: its number, amount, due date and how overdue it is, and whether that client's earlier invoices were paid on time.
- Your prices: your active event types and their prices, for a proposal draft.
- How you write: emails you have already sent from earlier drafts, so new drafts sound like you. Email addresses and amounts of money are masked first. Names are not.
- Times you are free: for a lead reply, up to three open times in the next week.
- A typed command: the phrase you typed and today's date, and nothing else from your account.
A meeting brief, which only you see, also includes a summary of that client's outstanding invoices and open proposals. That is never included in anything written for a client.
What is never sent
- Events from your connected calendars. Nothing synced from Google, Microsoft or a CalDAV calendar is sent to AI. This is checked automatically: a test in our code fails if any AI feature could read synced calendar events.
- Card details and passwords. Forge never holds them to send. Cards are handled by Stripe, and passwords are stored only as salted hashes.
- Whole files. When you move in with AI, it is shown column names and masked samples, never whole rows.
One consequence of the calendar rule: the free times offered in a lead reply are worked out from your working hours and your Forge bookings only. A time could clash with something on your connected calendar, so check the times before you send.
Nothing is sent without you
A draft is only ever a draft.
- Every draft waits for you. You can edit the message, then choose Send or Discard.
- There is no setting that sends AI drafts automatically.
- A proposal draft fills in the proposal editor. You still check every line and send it yourself.
- The one thing AI writes that goes out without a button is the opening of your own Monday digest, and that goes only to you.
Your daily allowance
Each account has an AI allowance for the day. It resets at midnight UTC.
- It is one allowance across every AI feature, not one per feature.
- It is measured by how much the AI reads and writes, not as a fixed number of drafts.
- On a paid plan or during your trial, the allowance is eight times the Free one. In money, that is US$2.00 of AI use a day against US$0.25 on Free, counted at the AI provider's list price. You are never billed for it.
- Settings → AI assistant shows the percentage you have used today.
When the allowance is used up:
- Buttons such as Brief me tell you, and work again after midnight UTC.
- A first overdue reminder is sent in Forge's standard wording instead of being drafted. Later reminders wait until the allowance resets.
- A session recap falls back to the standard follow-up email, if you have that switched on.
- A lead reply is not drafted.
- Your Monday digest arrives without its AI opening.
There are also daily limits on individual features, such as how many drafts you can send in a day.
Copy as prompt, for your own assistant
A booking, an invoice and a client record each have a Copy as prompt button. It copies a plain-text summary of what is on that page, ending with an empty line that reads "My question:", ready to paste into whichever assistant you use.
- Forge sends nothing anywhere. The text goes to your clipboard and you choose where to paste it.
- It does not use your AI allowance, and it works on every plan.
- It carries less than the page does. Private links (cancel, reschedule, pay and portal links) are removed, and so are card numbers. Nothing from a calendar event synced from Google, Microsoft or a CalDAV calendar is included.
Read what you paste before you send it. Once it leaves Forge, the other service's own terms apply to it.
Who provides the AI
Forge's AI is Claude, made by Anthropic. Anthropic is listed in our Privacy Policy as one of the companies that process data for us. Anthropic's commercial terms state that data sent through their API is not used to train their models.
Turning AI off
- Each of the four draft kinds has its own switch in Settings → AI assistant. They start off.
- The Monday digest has its own switch in Settings → Notifications.
- Typed commands, Brief me and Draft the follow-up only run when you use them.
There is not yet a single switch in Settings that turns off every AI feature, including the meeting brief on the calendar. If you want AI off for your whole account, email support@forge.page and we will switch it off.
